Earlier this autumn I received an enquiry for a bilingual wedding in May 2029. It was a lovely surprise, and it reminded me how differently couples approach booking their celebrant. Some come to me two or three years ahead, while others get in touch a few months or even weeks before the day, once the venue, the photographer and the location if considering a destination wedding, are all in place.
Whatever the time line, I will always do what I can to help. Still, if you are wondering when to book a wedding celebrant, there are some good reasons to think about it earlier than you might expect.
Your ceremony is the reason for the day
It is easy to think of the ceremony as one item on a long planning list, somewhere between the flowers and the seating plan. In reality it is the part of the day that everything else is built around. It is the moment your guests have travelled for, and the words you will remember long after the champagne bubbles have popped.
Choosing the person who will help you shape that moment deserves the same care as choosing your venue, and the same early attention so that you are able to engage with the person of your choice, and not face disappointment.
Why dates go sooner than you might think
I work with one couple per day, always. Many of my ceremonies involve travel the day before and sometimes afterwards, so I usually protect three days around each wedding. That means my calendar fills more quickly than the number of weekends might suggest, particularly from May to September and for destinations such as the Alps, the Dolomites, Austria and Switzerland, where couples often plan well in advance. If you already have a date and a place in mind, an early conversation means you are much more likely to be able to tick a major element of your day off.
Time makes for a more personal ceremony
A ceremony that sounds like the two of you is not written in an afternoon. When we have time on our side, we can get to know each other properly, talk through your story at a relaxed pace and let ideas settle before anything is put on paper. There is room to explore rituals, from handfasting to something you create together as a new tradition of your own, and to think about readings and the people you would like to involve.
For bilingual couples, time also lets us decide together how much of the ceremony should be in English and how much in German. That balance depends on your families, your friends and the way you speak to each other, and it is much easier to get right when nothing is rushed. Booking ahead also gives us the chance to meet in person, because I travel to England regularly and am happy to arrange to see you while I am there.

Your fee is fixed once you book
Wedding prices tend to rise from year to year, so it helps to know exactly where you stand. Once your booking is confirmed, your ceremony fee is fixed, however far away your wedding is. You pay in three stages: a booking fee to secure your date, a payment when you receive your first draft, and the final balance shortly before the day. Spreading the cost in this way means there are no surprises, and my travel and accommodation within the UK and Europe are included in the ceremonies I lead in person.
What happens when you get in touch
Everything begins with a relaxed call, with no obligation, so that I can hear about your plans and you can decide whether I feel like the right fit. If you would like to go ahead, I send you a fixed price quotation along with my terms, and your date is secured once the booking fee has been received. From there we move into an unhurried process of questionnaires, conversations and drafts, with a rehearsal or walkthrough before your day. You write your own vows, and I give you prompts and gentle guidance so that the words come from you.

Now booking for 2027 and 2028
I am now taking bookings for weddings, vow renewals and elopements in 2027 and 2028, in the UK and across Europe, in English, German or a mixture of both. You can find details of all my packages on my Ceremony Options and Prices page, and if your date is further ahead than that, I would be very happy to talk about it too.
If you have a date in mind, or even just a season and a place, I would love to hear from you. You can book a call with me here, or send me a message and we will find a time that suits you.
