Spring is here – finally! Wedding season is beginning! I am now in ceremony writing mode, and it occurred to me that when couples first begin planning their wedding, much of the focus naturally falls on the beautiful things. The location. The flowers. The atmosphere. The celebration with their dearest family and friends.
Yet the moment that brings everyone together is the ceremony itself.
A celebrant-led ceremony is very different from a standard, scripted format. It is not simply a formal moment before the celebrations begin. It becomes the emotional centre of the day. The part your guests remember most clearly years later.
I know from all the feedback from couples that I have received over the years, that their Ceremony was the centrepoint of their day, and chosen because they valued the authenticity, storytelling, and the way in which the ceremony connected them to each other and those who were not simply spectators, but felt like they were participants in these precious moments.
Going Beyond the Traditional and Templated Scripts

Many traditional ceremonies follow a set format that has changed very little over time. The words are largely the same for every couple, with only small variations. There is absolutely nothing wrong with this – for me as your Celebrant, all I want is that you feel completely in control of what is said and how you express your relationship with each other.
A celebrant ceremony is created differently. It really is simply put, all about your choice. Your style. Your personalities.
Instead of adapting your story to fit a pre-written structure, the ceremony is written entirely around you. Your uniqueness as individuals, your relationship, your shared values and the journey that brought you here.
It allows space for humour, personal memories, rituals that hold meaning and relevance to you or your partner, and is simply honest and genuine. There is no pretence here. And because of all these things, no two ceremonies will ever sound the same. There may be a “structure” couples ask me to follow, so that everyone feels grounded as part of a “wedding” but all this is optional. Each ceremony can hold just exactly what the couple feels they want to share.
For many couples this is the first time they realise that the ceremony can feel truly personal rather than formal or distant, and this is when I feel the most honoured and priviledged to be able to create and lead them in their ceremony.
The Emotional Experience for Your Guests

One of the most frequent comments couples often share with me afterwards is how deeply the ceremony touched their guests.
Friends and family are not simply observing a formal exchange of vows. They are invited into the story of the relationship itself. They are literally bearing witness to a magical moment in time. Their presence, support and encouragement, is so important.
They hear how you met, the moments that shaped your journey, the challenges you overcame together, what you have learned from each other, and what you always want to be to one another. They can absolutely understand what this commitment means to you.
There is always a moment when an anecdote or memory shared brings smiles and even laughter. There might even be a few happy tears. What there always is, is a sense of warmth and belonging, that brings everyone closer together.
Guests frequently tell couples that the ceremony was their favourite part of the day and this brings me quiet joy and pride.
How We Create Your Ceremony Together
Over several months we work together to shape the experience you want to create. Through conversations and asking some pretty personal questions, the story behind your relationship becomes the foundation of the script – in tone, emotional resonance, and meaning.
Many couples tell me they enjoy this part of the process more than they expected. It becomes a moment of relaxed, even fun, joint reflection during what can be a busy period as planning and work and commitments take up personal time and energy.
Together we explore:
• the story of how you met
• the milestones and key moments that shaped your relationship
• the values, goals, and dreams you share as a couple
• the atmosphere you want for your ceremony
From these conversations I write a ceremony that feels natural, warm and completely authentic to you.
I am not an author, developing narratives and scenarios. I am simply a reflector, a facilitator, and a storyteller, and so am only able to use what you give me to interpret your love story, and capture it in your unique “voice”.
Creating Moments That Feel Like You
This may include:
• a symbolic ritual such as a Hand Tying or Ring Warming
• blending cultural traditions or creating new ones!
• including family members in a special way
These moments are never added simply for decoration. They are chosen because they are totally in sync with your story.
When done thoughtfully, they create a ceremony that feels deeply personal rather than performative. I am all for this freedom of expression!
The Heart of the Day

Beautiful locations and all the trappings and finer details certainly shape the atmosphere of a wedding.
But the ceremony is the moment where everything becomes real. It is where two people stand before the people who matter most and declare the life they are choosing together.
When the ceremony is created with intention, warmth and care, it becomes the heart of the entire day.
And long after the music fades and the photographs are framed, it is often the words spoken during that moment that stay with couples the longest.
If you are planning a wedding or elopement in Europe or in England, and want a ceremony that reflects your story, your values and your journey together, I would be delighted to hear about your plans, and discuss your ideas and wishes.
