Why Inclusion Matters to me as a Wedding Celebrant

I have been fortunate to work with a huge diversity of people in my career as a public servant, particularly during the 70 s and 80s when I was in Skills and Training Management, and it became very clear that there were many people who had been overlooked or marginalised simply because they were „different“. It was a time of building new pathways and programmes to allow more people to take part in work, be a part of our lives and bring their perspective to teach us what it might mean to walk in their shoes. Over the years my career gave me the honour of meeting so many truly amazing people, and now, 14 years as a Celebrant, I appreciae that I am still in a role that supports and connects with a rich diversity of people, through ceremony and ritual.
For me , our human story has been one of connection, diversity, and love. Despite our many differences—whether in language, culture, appearance, or identity—what unites us all is a fundamental truth: everyone deserves to love and be loved, authentically and fully.
When couples choose a celebrant-led ceremony, it becomes a reflection of their true selves, they affirm a core value that transcends borders and backgrounds: that every human being is equal, precious, and deserving of respect.
As a celebrant, I am deeply committed to creating a safe and welcoming space for all couples. Your love is valid, your identity is honored, and your story deserves to be celebrated in a way that truly reflects who you are. Whether you are LGBTQ+, gender-diverse, or simply seeking an inclusive environment to express your authentic self, I am dedicated to supporting and honoring your journey with kindness, respect, and understanding.
Love is something we all need and want in our lives!

We are all connected by this shared history, and through love, we continue to weave new stories of hope, resilience, and joy. Love is a universal language—one that transcends borders, cultures, and identities. It’s a force that unites us, reminding us that at our core, we all seek connection, understanding, and acceptance.
When couples come together to celebrate their love—whether through marriage, vow renewal, a naming ceremony or any meaningful ritual —they represent this amazing shared human experience. Their love affirms that everyone deserves to express themselves honestly and fully, in a way that reflects their true selves. It’s a story of hope, building a future together.
Diversity shows the Strength and Happiness we find in Love

Over recent decades, we have made significant progress in understanding and accepting diversity and gender identity. Society has become more aware, more compassionate, and more willing to embrace people of all different backgrounds and identities. We’ve seen laws change, conversations open, and minds broaden.
Yet, despite these advances, there is always more we can do. Acceptance is an ongoing journey—one that requires patience, learning with open hearts, and the grace to realise we don’t always get it right. We can’t afford to become complacent. We need to continue to listen, learn, and act with love and kindness.
My personal commitment is to help create a space where everyone feels safe, respected, and celebrated—regardless of where they are in their journey. I admire the courage of transgender women and others who live authentically despite ongoing challenges which must be deeply affecting. Their resilience and determination inspire me, and I am honored to support them in creating meaningful ceremonies that reflect their true selves.
Ultimately, the path forward is rooted in acceptance and love. We can always choose to do better, to be kinder, and to foster environments where everyone can live and love openly. Every act of acceptance helps build a more inclusive and compassionate world.
Inclusion Reflects My Values as a Celebrant and Human Being

Across cultures and faiths, kindness, respect, and compassion are universal. When we create ceremonies that honor these principles, we foster environments where everyone feels seen, heard, and valued. Whether you’re LGBTQ+, gender-diverse, or simply seeking a space to express your true self, your ceremony should be a reflection of your identity and your love story.
My goal is to provide a supportive and inclusive environment where your love is celebrated just as it is—authentic, meaningful, and deserving of recognition.
My Call to Action:

Especially if you’re planning a wedding or a ceremony that truly reflects who you are, do remember that it’s a powerful act of affirmation—to yourself, your partner, your family and your community. Make space for your true self to shine. Incorporate elements that resonate with your identity and experiences.
And remember that your celebration can be a message of acceptance, showing that love and authenticity are universal rights, not to mention that it is just for those attending, but it is something that will inevitably have a ripple effect on your wider community.
Every ceremony is an opportunity to promote understanding, respect, and love in all its beautiful forms. And I am here to support you every step of the way, ensuring your celebration is as inclusive and heartfelt as your love.
Our human story is one of incredible diversity, resilience, and hope. When we celebrate love authentically and create a safe, welcoming space for all couples—including those who have shown extraordinary courage in living their truth—we honour what unites us all—the deep truth that every human being is precious.
We’ve come a long way in understanding and acceptance, but our journey continues. The most powerful step we can take is to choose love—accepting each other and ourselves—and to keep moving forward with kindness and compassion. Let your ceremony be a reflection of your true self, a testament to love’s power to bring us closer, and a reminder that in embracing each other’s stories, we build a more understanding and compassionate world.
With the words of Desiderata in my mind let me leave you with this :
“Neither be cynical about love : for in the face of all aridity and disenchantment it is as perennial as the grass.
You are a child of the universe. No less than the trees or the stars.
You have a right to be here.
Strive to be Happy”
