HAYLEY AND KATJA GOT MARRIED !
Hayley and Katja held their wedding at a beautiful rural location just outside Hull, in East Yorkshire, a few years ago now, but I have been so lucky to follow their story and see them realise their hopes and dreams of becoming a family, via their honest and heartwarming instagram posts.
It is so important for me personally to work openly, honestly and authentically with all my couples. In my view, there is simply not enough love in this world, and given recent situations in my own life and in the world in general, I just want to celebrate love, because wherever we find it, it is just so precious.
THEIR LOVE STORY
When Hayley and Katja asked me to be their bilingual Celebrant, first of all it was an absolute honour – the way in which language can make people feel included is just wonderful. I jumped at the chance to be the one chosen for their Celebration of Marriage, and together we crafted a ceremony script which brought smiles, laughter, and happy tears.
They met on board cruise ships where Hayley was a dancer and Katja was a stage technician. It was definitely a meeting of soulmates, and they were determined to make a life together on land. Hayley continued to dance, giving instruction and teaching, and Katja took a job ashore in Hamburg where they both settled.
Celebrating their marriage was so important to them both, and they took great care of all the details so that all their guests would feel totally at ease, and share all the magic of their special day. Fun, relaxed, heartwarming and emotional were definitely the way in which I remember their ceremony, and standing with them afterwards for photos was both an honour and a real delight because they were just fizzing with happiness!

SO WHY CHOOSE ME AS YOUR CELEBRANT?
Of course, I am not everyone’s “cup of tea” but I am always going to be the first in line to cheer for any couple that wants to celebrate their partnership, and for their family and guests to feel the importance of, and the absolute joy contained in such a ceremony.
The ritual of marriage has been around for hundreds of years, and in the past, it has not always been a “free and voluntary act” – as we know from our education and history! However, as a Celebrant, it was just so freeing to be able to offer couples another choice, one in which there was no judgement or criticism, but simply tons of help, support, enthusiasm and joy in writing their unique and individual script.
Hayley and Katja have gone forward together, fiercely loving one another, each growing in strength and resilience too, as they faced quite a few personal obstacles before being able to create their own family. This journey has been wonderful to witness, and I can only applaud them both for their willingness to share their personal journey into parenting with so much care and consideration.
The freedom to choose who we love and how we live with those we love has been hard won, and many countries and cultures are still unable to offer that.
