When couples begin planning their wedding, it is often these details that take centre stage.
The venue. The flowers. The favours. The timeline of the day.
Of course, all of these matter, as they help to shape the experience into something beautiful for everyone. But after more than 600 ceremonies, I can honestly say that this is not what people remember.
Years later, what stays with you and your guests is something much simpler and far more meaningful.
You remember how it felt.
To be present in one of life’s most meaningful and unforgettable moments.
Couples remember the moment they stood together and made their promises to one another. Whether it felt calm or rushed. Whether there was space to breathe, to look at each other, to take it all in.
Family and guests, who are there to witness it all, remember whether they felt included in that moment, or whether it felt like something they were simply watching from the outside.
As a celebrant, it is an honour to stand and hold that space.
A celebrant led ceremony has a quiet power. It sets the tone for everything that follows.
When it is written with heart, personality and honesty, and delivered with warmth and sincerity, everyone present can slow down and truly experience what is happening.
And that is what stays with people.
Your guests will remember if they felt something real.
They remember when a ceremony reflects the couple honestly, when the words feel natural and personal, when there is warmth, laughter and a genuine sense of connection in the space.
They remember when it feels like it really is about the two of you. Not a performance. Not simply a template being read aloud, but a moment that feels grounded, sincere and full of life.
They remember the atmosphere too. The energy around you, and how it feels to be part of it.
The quiet just before you speak your vows. The way people lean in to listen. The shared smiles. The sense that something meaningful is unfolding.
And often, without quite being able to explain it, they remember that it felt different.
As a celebrant, this is what I care about most.
Creating a ceremony that allows you to be fully present with each other. That gives your guests the chance to feel connected to you and to the moment. That holds everything with warmth, calm and a real sense of joy.
Because long after the flowers have faded and the details have blurred, and the favours have been tucked away, this is what remains.
The feeling of being wrapped in love.
After all these years, it still feels like a privilege to stand beside two people as they begin that next chapter together.
And to help create a moment that will stay with them, and with everyone who shares it, for many years to come.
I work with couples from around the world, and no matter where they choose to marry, this is always what matters most – that the memories made can be held with such clarity, they can always easily be recalled and enjoyed.
